WBC Rosters - Clapp - 02-08-2009 What the fuck? Marmol's not pitching in the WBC right? I assume Sullivan's just clueless as always. <!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Marmol will have to compete for the job while also pitching for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, dealing with pressure situations in significant games. When Marmol began pitching in the Dominican's winter league playoffs in late January, Peter Gammons wondered in his ESPN.com blog why the Cubs would let their would-be closer get on such a roller-coaster schedule. "Marmol is heating up in January while pitching in the Dominican league playoffs," Gammons wrote. "Then he's going to go to spring training and slow it down, then turn it up again in the WBC, return to spring training and slow it down, then head north and be expected to be a shut-down closer beginning on Opening Day. "Start. Stop. Start. Stop. Start. And there is a full season ahead." Marmol didn't pitch for the Dominican in the Caribbean World Series last week in Mexico and is expected to report to camp with Cubs pitchers and catchers before leaving to prepare for the WBC.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> WBC Rosters - Auz - 02-08-2009 It was confirmed last week that the Cubs have asked him not to pitch in the WBC WBC Rosters - Clapp - 02-14-2009 Wittenmyer's talking like Marmol is playing as well <!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Marmol, who already pitched in the Dominican winter ball league, has said he'll play, and that raises the issue of how it will affect his ability to be ready and focused to be the Cubs' new closer on Opening Day.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> Link(Sun-Times) WBC Rosters - Clapp - 02-14-2009 And more from Wittenmyer on Marmol: <!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Carlos Marmol, the Cubs' projected closer, plans to close for the Dominican Republic in the WBC, but he said he doesn't think that work will be any different than the work he would have in Cactus League games. WBC Rosters - Giff - 03-07-2009 Marmol just came in for the top of the 9th for the Domincan Republic, if anyone wants to see him pitch. It's on ESPN2.
