MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Clapp - 02-19-2009 Plug for our Where They Stand posts in the AL & NL West so far... AL West: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim(Me) Oakland Athletics(Fella) Seattle Mariners(Fly) Texas Rangers(Me) NL West: Arizona Diamondbacks(Me) Colorado Rockies(Me Of Course!) Los Angeles Dodgers(Fella) San Diego Padres(Me) Some of them are a couple weeks old so some of the news regarding the teams may have changed. I just finished the Padres one a few minutes ago. MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Tailgater - 02-19-2009 This isn't going to help the economy... http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-n...p&type=lgns MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Clapp - 02-19-2009 Big blow for the Rockies QUOTE The Denver Post reports that Jeff Francis will undergo exploratory surgery on his left shoulder Wednesday and is expected to miss the entire season. Francis admitted last month that he was likely headed for surgery, but tried to pitch through the injury early on in camp. His timetable for recovery won't be determined until he goes under the knife, but there's speculation that he has a torn labrum and Francis called his chances of pitching in 2009 "remote." Francis was 17-9 with a 4.22 ERA in 2007, but went 4-10 with a 5.01 ERA in 24 starts last season while struggling through the shoulder problems. Feb. 19 - 1:52 pm et MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Gad - 02-21-2009 Looks like Isringhausen is a Ray and Crede is a Twin... MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - HTC - 02-21-2009 The question is can Isringhausen ever get to 300 saves? He's been close forever and has sucked so bad the last couple of years. He's been close forever and has sucked so bad the last couple of years. That's a good gamble for the Rays. He could bounce back. That's an already strong team that, IMO, has had a solid off-season. Throw in the addition of Price for a full year, and that could be quite a ballclub. MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Clapp - 02-22-2009 Garret Anderson signs with the Braves: 1 year, $2.5 million. Nice deal for them, he can still hit. MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Captain - 02-22-2009 Any recent rumors on Nomar? MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Clapp - 02-22-2009 QUOTE The A's are interested in Garciaparra, and Oakland certainly is much closer to his Southern California home than Philadelphia. "We're not going to get into a bidding war with the A's," Amaro said. "He knows what our parameters would be." I really don't see Nomar happening with us. I've never heard a single mention of it from any sources around the team. Greenberg suffered a concussion and persistent vertigo after being hit by Marlins southpaw Valerio de los Santos and has since struggled to restore his career. Dusty Baker was Chicago's manager back then. Now the Reds, Baker's current employer, have invited Greenberg to their minor league camp, a source told ESPN. The outfielder, who turned 28 on Saturday, has played for the Dodgers, Royals and Angels organizations the last three years since his release by the Cubs in June 2006. He has not made it beyond Double-A ball since the '05 accident. Greenberg and Fred Van Dusen of the 1955 Phillies are the only two players in major league history to have been hit by a pitch without ever having another at bat or appearance in the field. -- William Weinbaum, ESPN Enterprise Unit MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - ColoradoCub - 02-23-2009 QUOTE Nationals released LHP Odalis Perez. Signed to a minor league contract two weeks ago, Perez decided he was upset about not getting a major league deal and has been holding out ever since. He didn't show up to Nationals camp by the mandatory reporting date and refused to return the team's calls, so they understandably decided to cut bait and move on. Look for Perez to wind up with another minor league deal, probably from a team less likely to hand him a rotation spot. what a douche! MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Clapp - 02-23-2009 QUOTE Club officials are optimistic that the Felix Pie visa situation will be rectified in the next day or two, perhaps allowing him to join the team in time for the start of the exhibition season. |
