Yes. I wouldn't exactly bet on it, but I think he has a fairly good shot to crack the rotation.

12 pitchers is what we've all heard, correct? Let's assume Marshall wins the rotation spot and Samardzija and Heilman got to the pen.

That leaves one more spot for one of Ascanio, Hart, Stevens, and Guzman. I've also heard talk of Samardzija going to AAA to keep his starting endurance up so he can be moved into the rotation if there's a need. That would leave 2 bullpen spots open for those 4 guys.

Given Steven's past success and accolades, I wouldn't be surprised if he's on the 25 man roster.

You forgot Cotts, none of those 4 guys are gonna make the team unless someone gets hurt or really really sucks in spring.

Meh, I purposely left Cotts off. I know we technically need a lefty in the bullpen, but he's actually slightly worse against lefties than he is against righties. I just don't see a need for the bum. You're probably right though and Lou and Hendry will want to keep him on the roster as a "lefty specialist".

Yeah, whether he deserves to be on the roster or not is a different matter, but he is going to be on it, unless he gets hurt or something crazy happens.

"Oil-Can" Boyd wants to comeback

The 49-year-old wants an MLB team to give him a look this spring, according to a report in the Boston Globe.

Says Boyd, "I have nothing to lose, and all a major league team has to lose is 15 minutes. Give me 15 minutes and I'll show I can still pitch. That's all I want."

And he says he's still got some pretty good stuff, claiming his fastball is in the low-90s and his changeup and curveball are as good as ever.

Boyd finished with a 78-77 career record and a 4.04 lifetime ERA over a 10-year stretch with the Red Sox, Expos and Rangers.
