The Hangover references the shot where you can see the reflection of Pesci's car zooming by in DeNiro's sunglasses. Pretty funny.

Really. I think you're getting carried a way just a bit. I could name many scarier scenes in the movie Seven for instance. I must just not get it, because that scene didn't scare me, chill me, or anything like that.

That's brilliant on any level you want to judge it on. I just don't get how that disturbing kind of stuff can be your favorite movie of all time.

Seven didn't scare me -- it was so overblown and over the top that it never felt realistic to me. Don't get me wrong -- I liked Seven and thought it was a good movie. But it didn't scare me.
If that scene didn't affect you in any way, I'm giving up on you and Taxi Driver.

holy shit, "se7en" is easily one of the greatest movies ever. that one stuck with me for weeks. up until "benjiman button" david fincher was becoming one of my top 3 directors of all time. blaspemy or not, i'll watch "se7en" over any scorcese movie and not blink an eye.

Also, I have to say that the Taxi Driver scene disturbed me more than anything. It is one of the more tense scenes in movie history, but I can't say that I was spooked by it.

Again, I didn't get this at all. It was a good scene with a disturbed dude pissed about his wife's cheating. Well done for sure. But tense and scary it was not.
And Tom, I agree. Seven was freaking awesome. For me, that was scary and tense.

Again, art and film are pretty subjective, so I'm not saying you guys are wrong. To each his own.
I will guarantee you this, though...
If you gathered a group of the most well-respected movie critics and asked them Fincher or Scorsese, the vote would be unanimous in favor of Scorsese.
That isn't to say Fincher isn't incredibly talented or a really good director. He is. Seven, Fight Club, and Panic Room were all outstanding. But Scorsese is in a league of his own. He has changed the face of American cinema. And I'm sure if you asked Tarantino, Fincher, or pretty much any other director of their ilk working today, they would all tell you that Scorsese is a huge influence on their work.
