Bradley traded?? - rok - 12-18-2009

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Silva has absolutely no role on the team any more after two disastrous seasons and little hope for a turnaround. He went 4-15, 6.46 in 2008, and was 1-3, 8.60 in eight games in '09, spending most of the year on the disabled list. Bradley, at least, is healthy and can be very productive when he's focused and happy.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

So we're gonna end up trying to dump this guy or release him next season as well. Super. Hopefully Hendry is fired before then.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->The deal is done. The Cubs have traded right fielder Milton Bradley to the Seattle Mariners for right-handed pitcher Carlos Silva. The Cubs also will net $9 million out of the deal. We'll hear from Jim Hendry this afternoon.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Rogers, Sullivan and Heyman are saying only $6m over the next 2 years.

Yeah, that sounded a bit generous at first. It helps a bit, but still blows.

Bradley traded?? - Fella - 12-18-2009

Yeah looks like Seattle is paying all of Bradley and 9 mil of Silva who was owed 24 mil so we will pay him 15 mil over the next 2 years a 6 mil savings from Bradley's 21 mil.

Bradley traded?? - The Dude - 12-18-2009

so.... who can we trade Silva to?

Bradley traded?? - vegascub - 12-18-2009

I hope Silva doesn't have any kids he would put in a Chicago daycare center.

Bradley traded?? - VanSlawAndCottoCheese - 12-18-2009

This is truly a worst-case scenario. Fuck the GM who backs himself into a corner to the point that he's taking on one of the most ludicrous contracts ever.

Bradley traded?? - Fella - 12-18-2009

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->According to the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs will receive $9 million from the Mariners to cover part of Carlos Silva's remaining salary.
Silva is owed $24 million over the next two seasons and Mitlon Bradley is owed $21 million, so the Cubs are basically saving $6 million in the deal.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Bradley's gone and we have 6 million in cash and a player more easily gotten rid of, if need be.

All along the question was how much of Bradley's salary we'd have to eat and here we're getting cash.

This doesn't look too bad to me even if Silva is worthless. There were far worse outcomes. Silva could surprise...or we could deal him or cut him....any way you slice it, there were worse outcomes.
