I just re-read a lot of this thread...and so far I was all sorts of wrong. I freely admit it. I was all over Hendry's shit for this trade and couldn't have been more wrong.

The above quote was maybe the only thing I was right about.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Hendry was an idiot for signing the guy, so you weren't completely wrong. For trading him though, he's a hero.

Holy shit. I just read some more of this thread.

It's almost embarrassing how off the mark I was. I was crazy pissed about dumping Bradley on Seattle when I should have been thrilled.

Didn't someone say he was hitting about .200? If he's hitting .300, they don't even report this to the media.
Is he psycho? <i>Hell</i> yes. Was there ever any doubt? It was a 100% certainty <i>before</i> Hendry signed him. Jim thought (and I agreed) that his bat would overshadow his psychological weirdness.
Maybe Jim's decision to cut bait was a great idea. It's impossible to tell when a guy who was putting up OPS's of 1.000 is now OPSing .680, and pissing himself and everybody else off.

Before you guys jump all over me, let me state: yes, he's a dick. And yes, the storming out of the clubhouse was the ultimate dick move. It's the second time in 3 days that Seattle has had one of their players with a $10 million-per-year deal (Eric Brynes was the other) flake out on them.

I sincerely hope that Seattle's lawyers find a loophole that allows them to terminate this crybaby's contract.

Surely you jest. With his history? Yelling at an umpire from the dugout. Being admonished by his manager. Running away from home? This doesn't get reported? How did the media even get the story? It came from inside the clubhouse. He's much loved by teammates, yet again.

If he's hitting .400, they're reporting it. No doubt about it.

Look, I don't care what his OPS was year (and it wasn't 1.000) he had to go. Had to. You can't have a player putting himself before the team. You can't have a player being a distraction, and you can't have him doing it when he's sucking up the ball field, no matter what his OPS is. Bad attitude is bad, bad performance is bad, both together? He absolutely had to go.

I think Bradley is probably full of shit in saying he's out of there, for now, but I think one more blow-up and they may just send him home for good. The man is clearly unable to fulfill his contractual obligations without creating one hot mess after another.

And I'm not so sure that voiding his contract would result in cash returned to the Cubs. That seems a bit far-fetched considering that it isn't our obligation any longer.

If I'm the Mariners GM, I interpret his statement as quitting his job. If I cut him, I have to pay him. If he walks I can just let him go and stop paying him.

I hated the trade, but in hindsight, I was wrong. Maybe there is some truth to Larry Rothschild being a great pitching coach, or maybe it's Maddux's influence, but whatever it is, if Silva can continue pitching at or near this level over 150 more innings, we won big time. On top of that, Byrd has been a great addition in every aspect.

Bradley traded?? - biggz - 05-05-2010

Don't worry, Butch, I thought it would work if he came back, too.

Who the fuck thought we'd be elated to have Carlos Silva instead?

And right on, CC. Byrd is the anti-Milton.

I think it's time for a new thread.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Because two threads makes more sense than the 28th page?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

We can make a "Bradley, The Post-Cub Years" thread to talk about all his transgressions while away from Chicago.

Let's say he drives his car off Mt. Rainier; are we going to add that discussion to the "Bradley Traded?" thread?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>I'd have no problem with that. That's called "getting traded to the Angels."</b>
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Jstraw won on that move. Checkmate.

The denial in this Seattle sportswriter's piece is palpable, familiar, understandable and forgivable.

Quote:<i>"This team has gone out of its way to make a place for Bradley in Seattle. Everybody from the front office on down to the players, who really don't have a bad word to say about the guy. But now, if Bradley is to remain in Seattle and be a contributing member of this team, those same people who welcomed him here will have to go the extra mile.

Somehow, some way, they have to help him cope. Because stuff like this can't keep happening. This team is in enough trouble already and worrying about when the next Bradley erruption is going to come is just too much extra stress for everyone involved."</i>

Bradley refuses to honor Cinco de Mayo, and will not wear a "Los Mariners" jersey tonight in Seattle.
