Z to the Pen - ruby23 - 05-27-2010 I think they need to hold on to him, someone will get hurt before the year is out. Z to the Pen - 1060Ivy - 05-27-2010 Can Grozelanny be sent to AAA so he can continue as a starting without having to go through the waiver wire? One of the Cubs starters is going to need a break soon enough so it would be great to have Tom in Iowa to come up for a spell with his arm already stretched out. Teams maybe turned off by a guy who was hit in the pitching hand on his next to last start and then got shelled in his next start. Proving that he's healthy would make him a more attractive trade candidate. But if he doesn't, it is a gigantic waste moving him into long relief, especially with so many lefties already in the pen. We have 2-3 other SPs in the minors who could be called up in case someone gets hurt, so it probably wouldn't be a major loss to trade Gorzelanny if there are any takers. Z to the Pen - Runnys - 05-27-2010 Why would Gorz have to go to long relief? Put him in the role that Grabow currently has and ONLY pitch Grabow in blowouts. I do not want to see Grabow get the ball the rest of the year. Z to the Pen - kbwsb - 05-27-2010 Gorzelanny is bitching? On other teams, is it customary for players to constantly whine and complain about their roles, and be allowed to get away with it? Who the fuck is Gorzelanny to tell the Chicago Cubs franchise what to do? Z to the Pen - ColoradoCub - 05-27-2010 <!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Cashner could be in line for Cubs' bullpen berth May 27, 2010 1:17 PM | No Comments By Paul Sullivan The Cubs have moved top prospect Andrew Cashner to the bullpen for Thursday night's game at Triple-A Iowa, fueling speculation he may be called up to fill Carlos Zambrano's vacancy in the bullpen next week. Cashner will pitch one inning Thursday night and one inning Saturday before the Cubs decide what to do next. Jay Jackson, another starter who was switched to the bullpen, will move back into the Iowa rotation. "The reasons are as follows," player development director Oneri Fleita said. "Jackson has had a chance he can throw out of the pen, and he did a great job. And now we'd like to know what Cashner can do out of the pen because these kids are young kids. "They've pitched for two years and I'd hate to know that they (couldn't come) up here because we had a need for our bullpen." Cashner, a first-round draft pick in 2008, was a closer at Texas Christian. "Cashner is a little different because he was a reliever in college," Fleita said. "It's a little different when you're asked to get up, get loose when you've been starting your whole life and starting the whole year. You'd hate it to be the first time here. We're just making sure we're covered." Fleita said the decision was made as "an organization" last week, but wouldn't speculate on what it means for the immediate future of the Cubs bullpen. If Tom Gorzelanny is demoted, the Cubs would not have a need for four lefties in the pen, and could send rookie James Russsell down to make room for a riight-hander. Cashner and Jackson are first in line if that happens.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> Z to the Pen - ColoradoCub - 05-27-2010 <!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Carlos Zambrano was sent to the hospital on Thursday for appendicitis-like symptoms, the Chicago Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer reports.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> Looks like Gorzelanny's spot is safe for now Z to the Pen - 1060Ivy - 05-27-2010 <!--quoteo(post=98718:date=May 27 2010, 04:49 PM:name=ColoradoCub)-->QUOTE (ColoradoCub @ May 27 2010, 04:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec--><!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <!--quotec-->Carlos Zambrano was sent to the hospital on Thursday for appendicitis-like symptoms, the Chicago Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer reports.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> Looks like Gorzelanny's spot is safe for now <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Didn't Gordon go on to report that there's a rumor that Z is faking the illness so he wouldn't have to go back to the bullpen this week and in the case that Z's not faking, he was taken to the hospital due to ODing while performing abortions on his stable of teen age prostitutes. Tanking a bullpen session makes his return to the rotation more imminent? SP don't have bullpen sessions too? I fail to connect the dots on that one. Sorry Z may not be the smartest guy on the planet but he does have his own management around him that would realize the risk reward for the situation makes no sense whatsoever. Z to the Pen - jstraw - 05-27-2010 Before the move was made, Gordo speculated that might not handle the move well enough to be effective out of the pen...which is what happened...but that's not a "story." So now, he speculates that Z sucked on purpose. He grabs a handful coming and going. I have him down as just another full of shit Cubs beat reporter. |
