MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Scarey - 01-21-2009 <!--quoteo(post=12834:date=Jan 21 2009, 03:51 PM:name=ruby23)-->QUOTE (ruby23 @ Jan 21 2009, 03:51 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec--><!--quoteo(post=12791:date=Jan 21 2009, 12:31 PM:name=Giff)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Giff @ Jan 21 2009, 12:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec--><!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <!--quotec-->Jeff Kent, who built a strong Hall of Fame case while setting the Major League Baseball record for career home runs by a second baseman, will formally announce his retirement Thursday at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers said.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> Should be a Hall of Famer. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> He's a prick, I would never vote for him. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Exactly. That racist SOB picked on our MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Destined - 01-21-2009 If Kent gets in...then so should Brett Boone and Alfonso Soriano. And it's safe to say...neither of those two are worthy. Kent's ONLY claim to fame is his ranking amongst 2B. If this bastard played 1B or 3B or LF, you'd never hear anything about him. May be have a great retirement, out of Cooperstown. BTW...the only good thing he did was his riff with Barry. MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Brock - 01-21-2009 <!--quoteo(post=12843:date=Jan 21 2009, 03:14 PM:name=Destined)-->QUOTE (Destined @ Jan 21 2009, 03:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->If Kent gets in...then so should Brett Boone and Alfonso Soriano.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> Soriano will end up with more games played in his career in the OF than at 2B, so that comparison is irrelevant. Bret Boone was nowhere near as good of a hitter as Kent was in their overall careers. MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Giff - 01-21-2009 Yeah those really aren't good comparisons at all. Kent is arguably the greatest run producing second baseman of all time, whereas Soriano isn't even a second baseman and Boone only put up a few roid-aided good years. And to say position doesn't matter is silly. To put up the kind of numbers he did playing a position known for defense-first (and a lot of the time, defense-only), he definitely deserves recognition. MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - HTC - 01-21-2009 There's a big debate on MLBTradeRumor's comment section of the Kent blurb about Kent, Biggio and Sandberg. MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Gad - 01-21-2009 Kent has more HR, a better OPS, OPS+, more hits, a better AVG, OBP, and SLG than Sandberg. What exactly are we debating here? That Kent should be in or that they should kick Sandberg out? MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Lance - 01-21-2009 <!--quoteo(post=12858:date=Jan 21 2009, 05:14 PM:name=Gad)-->QUOTE (Gad @ Jan 21 2009, 05:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->Kent has more HR, a better OPS, OPS+, more hits, a better AVG, OBP, and SLG than Sandberg. MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Brock - 01-21-2009 <!--quoteo(post=12858:date=Jan 21 2009, 04:14 PM:name=Gad)-->QUOTE (Gad @ Jan 21 2009, 04:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->Kent has more HR, a better OPS, OPS+, more hits, a better AVG, OBP, and SLG than Sandberg. MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Gad - 01-21-2009 <!--quoteo(post=12863:date=Jan 21 2009, 03:23 PM:name=Lance)-->QUOTE (Lance @ Jan 21 2009, 03:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec--><!--quoteo(post=12858:date=Jan 21 2009, 05:14 PM:name=Gad)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Gad @ Jan 21 2009, 05:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->Kent has more HR, a better OPS, OPS+, more hits, a better AVG, OBP, and SLG than Sandberg. Gad, brother, you just shit on the holy grail. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> I'm not saying Sandberg isn't a HoFer. He absolutely is. I'm just saying that Kent was better offensively than Sandberg in just about everey statistical category we have so if you want Sandberg in I don't see how you can make an argument to keep Kent out. MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Clapp - 01-21-2009 <!--quoteo(post=12858:date=Jan 21 2009, 03:14 PM:name=Gad)-->QUOTE (Gad @ Jan 21 2009, 03:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->Kent has more HR, a better OPS, OPS+, more hits, a better AVG, OBP, and SLG than Sandberg. Sandberg had a career fielding percentage 10 pts higher and won 9 gold gloves. He had 344 stolen bases, Kent had 94. You also have to take eras into consideration as well. MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Gad - 01-21-2009 <!--quoteo(post=12867:date=Jan 21 2009, 03:30 PM:name=Clapp)-->QUOTE (Clapp @ Jan 21 2009, 03:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec--><!--quoteo(post=12858:date=Jan 21 2009, 03:14 PM:name=Gad)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Gad @ Jan 21 2009, 03:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->Kent has more HR, a better OPS, OPS+, more hits, a better AVG, OBP, and SLG than Sandberg. But Kent is quite a bit better offensively and while there are a few guys who got into the Hall on the merits of their defense but it has and always will be primarily a recognition of offensive skills. Look, I know I'm not winning this argument here, hell I don't even like Kent. But I don't see how you can say he's not a HoFer and Sandberg is.. They are too close. Ryno has the defense, Kent had the better bat. Both won an MVP. Their cases are pretty similar IMO. MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - HTC - 01-21-2009 From the comments I read over there, a lot of the debate was over who was the best of those three guys. MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Clapp - 01-21-2009 If you saw the Thigh since last night, you saw that Steve Phillips is apparently joining Joe Morgan in the booth for Sunday nights. It's been confirmed today. Link- Yahoo's Big League Stew By the way, where it says : "Now, I'll admit that I'm not <b>one of the most vocal complainers</b> about the Miller-Morgan pairing", that's linked to my blog. MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox) - Clapp - 01-21-2009 Oh, and by the way Gad, I think Kent should be in. If it's an either/or thing(which obviously its not but this is a message board so whatever), I take Sandberg. |
