Ibanez to Phillies - veryzer - 12-12-2008

i'm betting bradley is a cub within the next week.

Ibanez to Phillies - Tailgater - 12-12-2008

Is it just me, or does Bradley scare the hell out of anyone else. I just don't know if this team needs another situation like Sosa, Lofton, or Barrett.

If we had anyone other than Lou as our manager, maybe, but I don't think Lou's going to put up with any shit from him.

Barring injury, I think Bradley would flourish as a Cub. I think he'd become a fan favorite. I hope we get him.

My thoughts exactly, but he needs to get off to a hot start, or else...

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->When I talked to a top official with the Cubs (the one who laughed at that rumored Carlos Silva-Kosume Fukudome swap) the other day, he told me his team wasn't all that interested in Ibanez any more because of the three-year deal thing and concerns about whether he could play right field for them (which is what the Cubs needed). He wasn't sure Ibanez would get a three-year deal the way the market was headed.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

By pretty much everyone who has ever opined about it, it seems that <!--coloro:#FF00FF--><!--/coloro-->Bradley<!--colorc-->
<!--/colorc--> is actually a good guy, a fine teammate, and a perfectly pleasant chap in the clubhouse. His outbursts have come against booing, screeching fans shouting racial epithets, and umpires who he deems have slighted him.

I'm not at all saying that the latter two problem areas are excusable;
I'm simply re-stating (for those who might not be aware of it) the seemingly universal opinion that, despite being a really high-strung dude, he's actually a pretty good teammate.

And guys like that tend to respect sergeant types in leadership positions...which describes Lou perfectly.

IMO, Bradley's only negatives involve his health, not his head.

If defense was a major sticking point for Hendry in regards to Ibanez, as I have read, than i'm guessing Dunn is out of the running as well...if he was ever a viable option

Seems to be down to Bradley and Abreu...I have to go with Bradley. Abreu just seems to be on the cusp of a downturn in his career.

You're most likely correct. If he can get his shit together and Lou lays down the law (which he hasn't exactly been known for since coming to Chicago), I think we'll be pleased. Also, and I know it's been said already, we need to keep DeRo if we sign Bradley. Our depth in that scenario would be incredible.

I haven't included Dunn in these discussions because pining for him is a waste of dream-energy, almost like dreaming, last winter, that we'd trade a couple prospects for Johan Santana: it's SO completely out of Hendry's wheelhouse, that it isn't even worth discussing.

Adam Dunn is the anti-Hendry ballplayer. Ain't to WAY we're gonna try to get him.
Bradley is a completely different type of player, and perhaps even better suited for us, except for the obvious health issues (of which don't exist with the unbelievably steady Dunn).

Ibanez to Phillies - Ace - 12-12-2008

Abreu is younger than Ibanez, IIRC.

That's because he doesn't give a shit and never overexerts himself. Not to mention that we wouldn't have a single true corner OF in the mix, and I think that would be a scary situation to put our pitchers in.

Ibanez to Phillies - kbwsb - 12-12-2008

Dunn's fielding woes are a definite mark against him.
Bradley is gads better, yet has spent a lot of time as a DH, simply because he's so brittle.

There isn't a perfect solution (Abreu is actually worse than Dunn with the glove), so Jim's gonna go for Bradley, and pray for good health. Fine, but sign him already.

WTF?
This new editing system baffles me.

Please tell me you didn't just say Abreu is worse than Dunn with the glove.
