Boring offseason - AlexV - 12-19-2008 It's becoming very clear that nobody wants Marquis, hell, not even us want him. I'm starting to get used to the idea of Marquis still being a Cub next year, it's the last year of his contract anyway. Boring offseason - Fella - 12-19-2008 I think eventually Marquis will be gone. like CCwin said, teams are looking at cheaper FA first, but I think the Mets or Rockies or someone will take him eventually, he has too much value not to get traded, especially if we pay some of his contract and take nothing in return but things will have to shake out a bit first. Boring offseason - Auz - 12-20-2008 I doubt anything major will be done until about week 2 into the new year. To be honest I think the Cubs offseason is probably done. Boring offseason - Ace - 12-20-2008 In this market, Marquis is worth $7 to $8 mill, I have no doubt. We should be able to trade him, only pick up a couple mill of his salary, AND get a solid prospect back. I seriously believe that. Boring offseason - Fella - 12-21-2008 Look at the interest Tim Redding is getting.... someone will take Marquis for 5-6 mil. Boring offseason - AlexV - 12-21-2008 It's simple, there's a three team fight for Redding, it's the Mets, the Rockies, and the other team I can't remember. The two teams that don't get him will now target Marquis. It's almost sure he'll be gone but I have a feeling he's gonna be a Cub next year, I don't know why. EDIT: the other team is the Orioles, just checked it up. Boring offseason - Ace - 12-21-2008 Just because we don't find Marquis suitable for our rotation doesn't mean he wouldn't fit in a dozen other teams' rotations. Especially for 5-6 mill. Boring offseason - savant - 12-21-2008 Career 79-70 righthander with a 4.55 era, 30 years old. Career 59-61 righthander with a 4.61 era, 29 years old. Career 78-68 righthander with a 4.36 era, 30 years old. Career 128-123 righthander with a 4.63 era, 34 years old. Who are they, and how much do they make? Boring offseason - kbwsb - 12-21-2008 OK. I give up. I'm guessing that one of them is Marquis, and another is someone who's thought of as much better than Marquis, but really isn't. Boring offseason - savant - 12-21-2008 Marquis Silva Meche Suppan All have signed large multi year contracts in the last few years. All of them are very pedestrian pitchers. Marquis for one year $8 million is a bargain. |
