Cubs trade Pie - Destined - 01-18-2009 <!--quoteo(post=12261:date=Jan 18 2009, 12:18 PM:name=Clapp)-->QUOTE (Clapp @ Jan 18 2009, 12:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->I wish Pete would post his thoughts about it on here instead of MLBTR.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> There's a lot of people not agreeing with Hendry on those comments. I don't get it. Pie and Olsen are practically even. Great numbers in the minors, terrible numbers in the bigs in an overall rather small sample size of big league games. As worst, its an even trade. As worst, its an even trade. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> It's because people are delusional about Pie and haven't seen the major holes he has in his game. Just ability wise, he's a great "talent", but so was Corey Patterson. He can't hit an inside fastball, he can't hit a good breaking ball, and he swings at pitches out of the zone. Defensively, he misses the cutoff man all the time and doesn't act like a captain in the outfield. It's possible he fixes some of these things but I wouldn't bet on it. They've been working with him tirelessly and it's made zero difference so far. Cubs trade Pie - Brock - 01-18-2009 Interesting how Hendry brings up the success of Soto and Theriot to try to explain away the fact that Pie is just another in a long line of failures for the Cubs minor league system. Cubs trade Pie - Rappster - 01-18-2009 Good...I can't stand the way he pronounces his name. Cubs trade Pie - ruby23 - 01-18-2009 Unless we use Olson to help us get Peavy, we're gonna end up regretting this deal. Plus, Olson's minor league numbers are way better than Williamson's <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> The numbers are limited, admittedly, but as a kid he has managed to strike out more than 1 per inning and he doesn't walk people. Garrett Olsen, on the other hand, is a BP pitcher who should be carried to the HR Derby by a participant. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Yeah, I think I like Williamson, but he was like 22/23 in High A when he did it.
