I agree than some team like the Royals or Pirates might would take a chance, but I couldn't see any team seriously competing, committing a 25 man roster spot to him.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Sure, none of the top teams will. But the lower-tier teams - what do they have to lose by taking a chance on him? A few hundred thousand bucks?

I mean heck, there are three teams asking about Rich freaking Hill...

With all of these RH options for the pen, I wonder if Shark could start out the year starting at Iowa.

We aren't even committed to keeping him on our single A roster.

Patterson is the only example I can remember clearing waivers. Who else am I missing?

Rosenthal is now reporting this as a done deal Cedeno plus a minor league pitcher.

With his arm, and stuff I think I would prefer to see him get more innings under his belt in Iowa. I hate to see us diminish his value so much by making him a reliever before we are sure that he will not be able to make it as a starter.

Guess that means we have to sign an infielder for sure now too, with Cedeno gone.

The Chicago Cubs have acquired pitcher Aaron Heilman from the Seattle Mariners for infielder Ronny Cedeno and pitcher Garrett Olson, a baseball source told ESPN.com.

Heilman and Olson have already been involved in trades this offseason. The Mariners acquired Heilman as part of a three-team, 12-player trade that sent closer J.J. Putz to the Mets in December. The Cubs picked up Olson in a deal for outfield prospect Felix Pie on Jan. 18. Cubs general manager Jim Hendry, who was returning from a trip to Italy on Wednesday, couldn't be reached for comment. But one baseball person said Hendry has been an admirer of Heilman's "since he pitched at Notre Dame.'' Olson had been mentioned as a potential trade chip if the Cubs decided to make another run at San Diego's Jake Peavy. The Cubs' deal with Seattle could put an end to speculation about the team trying to acquire Peavy.

Wow.... so we pretty much gave up Pie and Cedeno for Aaron Heilman. Yikes. I wonder if we plan on making him a starter like the rumors a couple years ago when we were interested in him.

Queue the KB rant.

And I can't say I'll disagree with him
