Joey G to Iowa? - ColoradoCub - 05-08-2009 Hmmmm, seems to me that we had a guy on our roster that could play the OF, 2B, 3B and cost a hair more than Freel. I think this pretty much kills Ruby's theory that the Bradley signing was dependent upon DeRosa being traded. If we blow $800k on Gathright when he refuses his assignment and then wind up acquiring Freel at $3.3m, it pretty much negates the monetary effect of the DeRosa trade, and in this light, makes it look like a collosally stupid trade. Joey G to Iowa? - savant - 05-08-2009 Joey does not have six years of service time, so if he refuses his assignment he walks away from the remainder of his 800k salary. On a related note: Gathright's waivers expired, apparently unclaimed. No word on official move for Wells' spot. Joey G to Iowa? - Brock - 05-08-2009 A dumb signing from day one. Joey G to Iowa? - Clapp - 05-08-2009 Freel is a Cub! Joey G to Iowa? - Clapp - 05-08-2009 Freel will report tomorrow and be activated then. Gathright to the O's. Joey G to Iowa? - rok - 05-08-2009 Sign me up for Freel. I was never a huge fan of his, but I have a feeling he can be another Reed-type character for the team with a little more versatility. And the main difference between DeRo and Freel, aside from power and speed, is that Freel won't bitch about playing time. Joey G to Iowa? - rok - 05-08-2009 Boy am I slow. Joey G to Iowa? - Butcher - 05-08-2009 Hilarious. So, instead of one dude making $5M, we now have two dudes making $2M (Miles) and $3.3M (Freel) who do the same thing as the one dude, but not as well. Joey G to Iowa? - cigar - 05-08-2009 This should diminish Miles role by quite a bit though shouldn't it? Joey G to Iowa? - Baron - 05-08-2009 Wait, people are upset about this? Really?? I wish we never signed him.
