Trade Deadline - 1060Ivy - 07-24-2009 <!--quoteo(post=51545:date=Jul 23 2009, 07:15 PM:name=Oatmealcookie)-->QUOTE (Oatmealcookie @ Jul 23 2009, 07:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->The best thing the cubs can do is stand pat and do their best with what they got. With all the high priced contracts, they are going to have to start relying on low priced rookies in the coming years/ They need to keep as many prospect as they can and try to fill in holes with theyre youth as it develops. This cubs team has underperformed big time. If they can just start playing close to their potential they can win this division and maybe get on a hot streak in the playoffs.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> So the Cubs should wait until they get healthy and start performing to expectations. Why? What should we expect is going to change in the second half of the season? The team as constructed has a finite window of opportunity to compete. The division is weak and another bat or bullpen arm should put them over the top. They could wait and see if the Cards, Astros or Brewers make changes or put the destiny in their own hands and try to make a couple of moves. It's only the Cubs money as I understand it they are still a top 3 revenue team so they increase ticket prices again by another 3-8% next year. Unlike small market teams, a big market teams can afford to make mistakes and still survive. It's been shown, the Cubs do not have the skills to scout, draft and develop their own talent on a regular basis but they do have deep pockets so admit mistakes and trot out another player until they can find someone who can produce. Trade Deadline - Clapp - 07-25-2009 From Al at BCB: <!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->I have also heard that the Cubs have made inquiries about Dan Haren from the Diamondbacks -- that would be a fantastic acquisition, as Haren is currently leading the NL in ERA and WHIP. Further, I've heard that the Blue Jays have had scouts watching nearly every team in the Cub farm system over the last few days -- could the Cubs be a dark horse candidate in the Roy Halladay derby? The Phillies rejected what the Blue Jays asked from them in an attempt to get Halladay, so perhaps Toronto is looking elsewhere. With Ted Lilly out for an undetermined length of time, the Cubs not only could use the extra bat that could come by clearing Bradley's salary, but another starting pitcher has to be high on the wish list.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> Trade Deadline - jeffy - 07-25-2009 That would be insanely nice, but I just don't want to get my hopes up, only to have nothing happen. Trade Deadline - Clapp - 07-25-2009 Levine: <!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->The Cubs have had conversations with the Pirates about left-hander John Grabow, one of the best left-handed set-up men in the league. A bigger trade with Pittsburgh, for a starter like Zach Duke or Tom Gorzelanny, may be the right avenue to follow with the loss of Lilly. Other starting pitchers available right now, according to league sources, are Cleveland's Carl Pavano and two Arizona pitchers, left-hander Doug Davis and former Cubs No. 1 draft pick, right-hander Jon Garland.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> Trade Deadline - Clapp - 07-25-2009 Gammons says it would take a "gaggle of prospects" to get Zach Duke. Trade Deadline - rok - 07-26-2009 I'm not getting my hopes up. Trade Deadline - Clapp - 07-26-2009 We'd have to offer the top 5 prospects probably, and I don't even know if that would get it done. He's worth more than Halladay right now. Also, he's signed through '12 with an option for '13, and his contract isn't outrageous for how good he is. The Diamondbacks shouldn't be looking to deal him. Trade Deadline - Brock - 07-26-2009 There are rumblings that the Brewers might trade for Jarrod Washburn.
