Yeah, while Silva will benefit moving to the NL, he does not miss bats and is a pretty crummy pitcher. Would the Cubs have been better just releasing Bradley outright? He definitely had to go, though. I think the concept was funny -- Bradley taking out a full page ad in the Trib to tell the fans to fuck off -- but the execution wasn't quite there. In more capable hands (Ace's, perhaps), that could have been pretty hilarious.

MESA, Ariz.- When Milton Bradley was traded to Seattle in December, he said he no longer wanted to discuss his controversial stint with the Cubs.
"I have no interest in speaking about Chicago," Bradley told reporters. "I'm a Seattle Mariner. I've moved on. I wish you would move on, and I wish the Chicago Cubs organization the best."
But three months later, Bradley had some interesting things to say about Chicago in an interview with the New York Times. In Bradley's eyes, the blame for his unproductive season lies with "Chicago," not him.
<b> "Two years ago, I played, and I was good," he said. "I go to Chicago, not good. I've been good my whole career. So, obviously, it was something with Chicago, not me."</b>
The Cubs signed Bradley because he led the American League in OPS in 2008 and was a switch-hitter who could fit into the middle of the lineup. They expected him to get on base, provide some left-handed power and play 130 or so games in right field.
But now Bradley blames the Cubs for a lack of communication, saying they wanted him to be a home run hitter.
"Just no communication," he said. "I never hit more than 22 homers in my career, and all of a sudden I get to Chicago and they expect me to hit 30. It doesn't make sense. History tells you I'm not going to hit that many. Just a lot of things that try to make me a player I'm not."
Bradley wound up hitting .257 with 12 home runs and 40 RBI in 393 at-bats. He was suspended for the final two weeks of the season for detrimental comments and a run-in with then hitting coach Von Joshua.
There's no record of anyone in Cubs management saying Bradley was expected to come to the Cubs and hit 30 home runs. General manager Jim Hendry took the blame for signing Bradley, which he repeatedly has called a "mistake." He had no comment on Bradley's remarks.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

In a real odd way, I have to agree with Milty. He does have a small point. There have been a few good players who have come to the Cubs and have fallen flat upon their arrival. Is it because of the pressure of a city that hasn't won since the early 1900s? Is it because they are at the tail end of their careers? I can not say for sure, but I have seen many good players fall flat on their asses when they have come here.
There are players who do real well here as well, but you can not forget the players who we signed hoping they would do here what they have done elsewhere, only to be let down. He has hit well every other year in his career, and the one year he doesn't, figures its with the Cubs.
However, blaming it on the city and the fans is a complete joke. He failed to live up to expectations in his brief stop here. There is no one to blame for his disaster of a year other than himself.

Almost everything you say here is applicable to every other team in baseball. Yes, Bradley, Danny Jackson, and Dave Smith all sucked after signing with the Cubs. Ted Lilly, Mark DeRosa and Randy Myers were all fantastic for the Cubs. What does that tell us? Nothing, really.
And why are any of surprised when a deranged individual like Bradley says deranged things?
