WGN No More? - rok - 01-19-2015 You win. WGN No More? - jstraw - 01-19-2015 He didn't. WGN No More? - Butcher - 01-19-2015 As I kid, I'm pretty sure we had 2, 5, 7, 9, 11, 32, 44, and 50. 44 was Spanish. I can't even remember what 50 was. WGN No More? - Bricklayer - 01-19-2015 When I was kid 44 had the old Spiderman and the Marvel animated series. The Marvel stuff was hardly animated though, they'd take panels of Jack Kirby stories and such and make it "move" with jump cuts and then make their mouths moved. It's hard to describe, but I loved it as a kid. They had Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Ironman, Sub-Mariner, it was cool. I think I'd like to try dig those up. Especially for the Jack Kirby stuff. So they had that and sox games. Which were always at night and the look on the field seemed extra dark and creepy, and all of their fans looked like troglodytes. I mean, the fans at Wrigley were all filthy long hairs too back then, but the sun seemed to at least sanitize them a bit. And all the AL umpires wore red jackets. I miss that actually I don't know why I just thought of this, when the Cubs played road games in the 70's at Shea it always depressed me. God, I really fucking hated the Mets. WGN No More? - Kid - 01-19-2015 Does anybody else remember watching games in the 80s from a few stadiums - I know Montreal was one of them - and the broadcasts always sounded weird? Like Harry was calling the game from inside a tunnel. Like Harry was calling the game from inside a tunnel.Yes. It seemed like most of the broadcasts in Houston, Cincy and Pittsburgh were like that too. Must have been the artificial surfaces or dome effect. That wasn't baseball. And like Brick, I also remember the Sox night game broadcasts on 44 and later 60 or 66, where everything looked damp and gloomy at all times, as though the lights were dimmed to save money for Reinsdorf and his penny-pinching goons. WGN No More? - jstraw - 01-20-2015 When I was a kid there was also a channel 26, at least for a while. We couldn't pick it up for shit and I don't remember what was on it. In the '80s, on cable we had WOR and WTBS in addition to WGN so every combination of Cubs/Mets/Braves was always on two channels. It was fin sometimes to switch over to the other broadcasters. WGN No More? - Runnys - 01-20-2015 I still have my "Boys of Zimmer" vhs tape! WGN No More? - Runnys - 01-20-2015 I remember having the black push button box for the channels. My oldest brother would take metal ended corn cob holders and was able to put them inside certain buttons to get in channels we weren't paying for. We never thought about the risk of electrical shock ? WGN No More? - rok - 01-20-2015 Quote:I still have my "Boys of Zimmer" vhs tape!Me too. It's one of my most cherished possessions. You had to click a selector to choose between the White Sox or pornography. No shit. WGN No More? - Andy - 01-20-2015 Spent plenty of time as a kid hoping the squiggly lines on Skinemax would clear up for a bit. And the video of the 89 Cubs clinching gives me goosebumps. I cannot even imagine how I'll feel when (yes I said when) the Cubs reach the World Series.
