Pie - ruby23 - 03-23-2009

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Felix Pie is batting just .184 after going 0-for-4 in Monday's loss. Pie has lost another 50 points off his average since we checked in on him five days ago and is now at .184/.220/.263 in 38 at-bats. It's highly unlikely that the Orioles will opt to send him through waivers at the end of the spring, but if this keeps up, it's possible that Ty Wigginton will be named the team's left fielder.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I think I'm finally about ready to admit that this dude's never gonna amount to shit.

Pie - Scarey - 03-24-2009

I'm interested to see him finally get some regular ABs in the regular season.

I don't think he's guaranteed any ABs -- at least on a ML team.

I'm not sure that's ever gonna happen. When the deal was first made they were planning on him as an everyday player, then he was going to platoon with Freel and now it looks like Wigginton, Jones and Markakis are going to be the everyday outfielders.

They've talked about committing to giving Pie most of the ABs against RHP. He's going to get regular ABs. It's just a question of how long. They stuck it out with Jones last year and he had a very rough start to the year.

I know no matter how good or bad a team is, the fans want to see them win. But the Orioles organization and fans realize they're not going to be competitive this year and McPhail plans to use this year to evaluate players like Pie.

That's absolutely the exact opposite of what they've said recently. He's looking at being the 5th OFer or not even being on the MLB club.

I don't buy that a team struggling to fill out a rotation spot is going to let go of a player that they just acquired by giving up a starting pitcher. Maybe it's just a backwards way of thinking, but to me it doesn't make much sense.

From today's Baltimore Sun:

That, plus the fact that he has sucked ass every time he's been given a shot with the big club.
