Don't tell anyone - Destined - 05-02-2010 I think we're a couple little pieces from being at the Cardinals level. Aramis is going to hit, sooner or later. We've got tons of depth in the outfield, and they all can hit and are hitting. Get a legitimate arm in the pen, and DFA Tracy to bring up Castro, and I think we can ride this team out the rest of the year. We can trade surplus starting pitching for veteran middle relief. I still think we may have a chance to sell high on Silva, if yesterday was an aberration. Don't tell anyone - BT - 05-02-2010 Why do we need to bring up Castro, exactly? Don't tell anyone - Lance - 05-02-2010 Well, as someone once said, let's not go sucking each other's dicks just yet. The Diamondbacks' pitching is really, really bad. The wind was howling out, and both have been stellar so far, including rehab stints in Lilly's case. I like Silva, and his pitches had some serious movement yesterday. Maybe I'm reading into something, but I like the idea of him being around Zambrano and Ramirez. Just looking at that picture of the guys at the Hawks game, you can tell those guys are buddies. I personally wouldn't trade Silva or Gorz unless we got something we couldn't turn down. I'm not a fan of Theriot's glove at all, but Castro has a LONG way to go, fielding wise. I'd like to see us get above .500 and stay there for more than a few days, and actually show some offensive consistency, then I'll start thinking about the Cardinals, but I'm not going to get too giggly just yet. Don't tell anyone - Destined - 05-02-2010 QUOTE (BT @ May 2 2010, 12:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Why do we need to bring up Castro, exactly? A few reasons. A. Youth. Look at what youth can do for a veteran ballclub. In 2007 the momentum and spirit from Theriot and Fontenot was huge in June and July. September came around and Hart and Soto added another jolt of energy. It's been seen time and time again how a youthful presence can energize a team. B. He's ready. Look at his numbers in Knoxville, and what he did in Spring Training. He's raking, and it looks like he can handle the top prospects in the Southern League pretty well and there's no reason for sending him to Iowa. C. His style of play. He's a shortstop with range, which puts Theriot at his natural position and improves the defense. Looking strictly at his numbers, he looks like an aggressive jitterbug on the bases. He's going to get nabbed stealing here and there, but he turns doubles into triples and plays with high energy. I just think that there's a lot of reasons to not hate this team. Lee and Ramirez will hit. I'd rather have those guys slumping or getting unlucky, than anyone else on the team. Don't tell anyone - Ace - 05-02-2010 The Cardinals have an excellent rotation, an excellent bullpen, good defense, and a very good lineup. So... yeah. I'd rather have those guys slumping or getting unlucky, than anyone else on the team.
True, there are many reasons to not hate this team right now, but it wasn't long ago that we were getting our asses kicked and only scoring 1 or 2 runs a game and blowing leads left and right. I just want to see some consistency (especially against non-shitty pitching) before I even think about 1st place. Let's see what this week brings. Don't tell anyone - jstraw - 05-02-2010 With regard to Silva: I want Z back in the rotation. We can't carry 6 starters. I'm for dealing the guy we can sell high. If that's Sloth, I'm fine with that but I suspect it will be Silva. A good, veteran middle reliever is something we can't say no to. With regard to Castro: It's not Theriot's glove, it's Mike Fontenot. We may have our strongest middle infield with the Riot at 2nd, Font on the bench and Tracy or Baker gone. And there is his youth and that he's ready. |
